Berliner Mauer, Berlin
The Berliner Mauer, commonly known as the Berlin Wall, divided the vibrant city of Berlin into two from 1961 'til 1989. Patrolled by armed guards and protected by a heavily mined death-strip, the Wall had the task of halting the East German workers going to West Germany. A symbol of the Cold War, the Wall separated friends and families and once destroyed, it paved the way for German reunification.
