The city of Setúbal is located on the bank of the Sado River, about 40 km from the capital, Lisbon. Once an important centre for Portugal's fishing industry, none of the many factories are still operating today. The city’s industrial life is now in decline, and tourism is considered a better opportunity for the future. The nearby coast of the Arrábida natural park boasts beautiful beaches and fascinating nature. Visitors can see a colony of dolphins which live in the Sado River. Setúbal’s main historic monument is the Monastery of Jesus, with its 16th century church built in late Gothic style.
